Chapter IV: Retainers part 2 - retainer list option and retainer modes
Now about retainer list option at menu. It should be changed to “Retainer Linkshell”. This would, instead of being just a way to check where your retainer is, to contact him. Some options when you select a retainer by this option would be:
-Manage items at bazaar. Even if you’re not there personally you can place or remove stuff from retainer bazaar as if you were talking to him by LS. -Chance stand message. -Read big stands’ visitor messages. -Change to retainer mode. While you have a retainer in a market ward you should be able to actually temporarily control it. The restrictions would be that you cannot leave the MW as retainer and that the retainer will vanish from its position until you stop using it, only then resetting to the position you placed him.
While in this mode the player would be able to talk in say, move In the current ward or to another ward and browse other retainers’ bazaar (if you have inventory space and enough gil with your retainer you can also purchase items with him). When you leave this mode you would change back to your character and the retainer reset to where (correct ward regardless of where you were when you left retainer mode) you placed him. -Cancel Level holder mode (explained at leve chapter). This would change the retainer to standby mode. -Cancel Bazaar mode. This would change the retainer to standby mode. -Summon the retainer in carrier mode or fighter mode. At start no retainers can change to fight mode. It would be a future option, unlocked by a serie of affinity quests between you and your retainers. But still, let’s talk about these modes.
The carrier mode would summon the retainer with a big straw chest in the back. His role in this mode would be receive everything that was meant to go to your inventory. All your loot would be to him and, if happen of an item obtained already being in his bazaar then its quantity would be automatically updated. This would be a great way of gatherers, crafters and people farming items to not have the inventory full…at least not until the retainer getting full. In this mode he would have 2 commands when you talk to him…follow, which will make him just follow you wherever you go, trade, that will allow you to manage inventories and bazaars, and stay, which will make him stay in that position. Stay is useful for player to, as example, place retainers at aetherial gates and camps to sell wares while he farm. It’s important to say, though, that if a retainer is too far from you he won’t be able to receive the items in your loot. And the carrier mode has a fee of 1000 gil/hr (ingame daily fee)
The fighter mode would be similar to carrier mode. He would follow you wherever you go and engage whatever you engage. When you talk to a retainer in fighter mode, you can manage inventories and change the retainer battle role (attacker, shield or healer). The retainer will have only an overall level, receiving always only full experience points. The fee for fighter mode would be 2000 gil/hr (ingame daily fee).
And, lastly, the retainer customization. We should be able to not only give retainers new gear but also, once fighter mode is unlocked, new weapons. Its very boring seeing all retainers looking the same.
